Step Down Reach

Step down and reach from low step with Left/Right Colour cue to add cognitive load.

  • Step down from low step (15-20cm) with contralateral reach to colour cone (sagittal only). [Step back up as per capacity].

  • Left/Right Colour cue directs left or right hand reach to colour cone, eg, Red Left = reach to red cone with left hand.

  • Environment Constraints: Step height, step/cone distance, pace.

  • Task Constraints: Reach to colour cone with either left or right hand as per cue, step down with opposite foot.

Exercise Design Notes: Step down (multi-level stepping) increases demand on range of motion and deceleration against gravity. In this variation, the left/right cue indicates the reaching hand, not the stepping foot; contralateral step can add significant cognitive load - assess without pace constraint/step down.

Regression/Progression: Step height, cone height, range of motion, pace, single level stepping, stepping patterns, multi/mixed cues, add load, add perturbation; step back as per capacity.
