Step Grid Multi Cue Variations

Step Grid variations utilising multi cues (2 cues/repetition) in a 3×3 grid format. Variations: Double Step Return; Step & Reach.

Multi Cues: Number (grid, clock, freeform), Colour (4-square) and Shape app cues can be set to give multiple cues (2-5) of the same type per repetition. For example, both the Double Step Return and the Step & Reach exercises utilises 2 Colour cues per repetition.

Double Step Return. [0:00]

  • 3×3 Grid double step/return to start, same side leg x2.

  • Number cue = corresponding grid marker/number; multi cues (2x cues/repetition).

  • Environment Constraints: Marker distance, grid size, pace.

  • Task Constraints: Same side leg x2; return to start between steps; alternating sides between repetitions.

Exercise Design Notes: Step/return with focus on weight transfer/return to start to challenge deceleration against gravity, directional agility; pace, grid size and marker distance adjusted to facilitate multi-directional stepping/ agility.

Regression/Progression: Range of motion, grid size, pace, multi-level stepping, stepping patterns, add load, add perturbation.

Step & Reach. [0.22]

  • 3×3 Grid Step with contralateral hand reach to floor.

  • Number cue = Corresponding grid marker/number.

  • Foot to first number cue, hand to second number cue.

  • Environment Constraints: Marker distance, grid size, pace.

  • Task Constraints: Reach to floor with contralateral hand to stepping foot; self select stepping foot side, multiple steps allowed as needed.

Exercise Design Notes: Step with reach to ground to develop access to range of motion and strength required to reach down to floor with variable foot placement positions.

Regression/Progression: Step length, grid size, reach range, multi-level stepping, mixed stepping patterns, multi/mixed cues, add load, add perturbation.
