Step Reach Patterns
Step Reach exercises utilising multi cue (multiple Colour cues/repetition) and mixed cue (colour/pattern) task constraints to add cognitive load/complexity.
Mixed and Multi Cue Variations:
Multi Cues: Number (grid, clock, freeform), Colour (4-square) and Shape app cues can be set to give multiple cues (2-5) of the same type per repetition. For example, the multi cue Step Reach variation utilises 2 Colour cues per repetition.
Mixed Cues: App cues can be “mixed” with task/environment cues and/or constraints to direct movement. This allows extra flexibility for exercise design and is useful for increasing complexity or adding cognitive load. For example, the Step Reach uses a single Colour cue to direct movement to a same coloured cone AND to cue a particular stepping pattern.

Colour cue = Cone colour AND stepping pattern:
Red: Right side ipsilateral (R step/R reach).
Blue: Left side ipsilateral (L step/L reach).
Yellow: Right side contralateral (R step/L reach).
Green: Left side contralateral (L step/R reach).

Environment Constraints: Cone distance, cone height, pace.
Task Constraints: Step pattern, reach to touch cone.
Exercise Design Notes: Mixed cue design to increase complexity and cognitive load in an otherwise simple dynamic balance exercise.
Regression/Progression: Cue complexity, pace, range of motion, multi-level stepping, add load, add perturbation.

Colour cue = Cone colour; 2 cues / repetition.
Environment Constraints: Cone distance, cone height, pace.
Task Constraints: Alternating leg step, contralateral reach only, reach to touch cone.
Exercise Design Notes: Multi cue design adds time/pace pressure to the task. Less complexity/cognitive load than mixed cue design variations, more accessible.
