Carry Shuttle Variations
Carry Variations utilising Number cues (singe and multi cue) in the Freeform format . Variations: Carry & Seek, Carry Shuttle.
Multi Cues: Number (grid, clock, freeform), Colour (4-square) and Shape app cues can be set to give multiple cues (2-5) of the same type per repetition. The Carry Shuttle variation in this video can be set up to incorporate a memory task by utilising the multi cue feature (5x cues per round)
Carry and Seek. [0.00]
Freeform cue format (range 1-6); markers scattered in random pattern across floor.
Number cue = Seek/find corresponding marker and carry load to marker.
Environment Constraints: Random marker orientation and distance, pace. Markers placed close together for demo video, distance can be set as per desired task focus. Range limited to 1-6, can increase/decrease as per task requirement.
Task Constraints: Single side suitcase carry; seek marker corresponding to number cue - carry load to marker, place load on marker and swap to opposite hand on each repetition.
Exercise Design Notes: Seek/find component of this carry variation adds cognitive load and facilitates multi-directional movement. Single side suitcase carry to challenge lateral stabilisation and grip strength. Placing load on marker to incorporate lifting from floor. Set slow cue pace to allow walking time, increase cue pace to add time pressure/increase walking speed.
Regression/Progression: Marker distance, marker number range, load, carry type, alternating hands vs same side, carry only vs carry and place; add perturbated load, multi cue, pace.
Carry Shuttle. [0.27]
Freeform cue format (range 1-6); markers in linear shuttle.
Number cue = Carry load to marker, lower to floor.
Multi cue option = 5 cues given at start of round, shuttle walk to corresponding numbers in order from memory. Use freeform format to allow visual reference for number order.
Environment Constraints: Linear shuttle marker orientation, pace. Markers placed close together for demo video, distance can be set as per desired task focus. Range limited to 1-6, can increase/decrease as per task requirement.
Task Constraints: Single side suitcase carry; carry load to marker, place load on marker and continue to next marker. Complete all 5 shuttles as per cue number, in order from memory. Refer to screen if reminder needed.
Exercise Design Notes: Memory component of this carry variation adds cognitive load. Single side suitcase carry to challenge lateral stabilisation and grip strength. Placing load on marker to incorporate lifting from floor. Set slow cue pace to allow sufficient walking time. For longer distances requiring more time to complete, use a single repetition setting on the cues app and utilise as a random number generator for each round.
Use Freeform format for cue to allow easy reference to cue number order (number order cannot be checked in Grid or Clock format on screen).
Regression/Progression: Marker distance, load, carry type, alternating hands vs same side, carry only vs carry and place; add perturbated load, single cue, mixed cues, pace.
